What does an evaluation cost?
Our comprehensive evaluation is a flat $3,000 — intake and history, testing, the feedback session, and the full written report included. As the practice opens, the first 20 families to schedule receive a practice-opening rate of $2,500. Complex evaluations requiring extended testing are identified and quoted at your intake — always before you commit. The initial 15-minute consultation is free; a $500 intake fee, credited in full toward the evaluation total, is due when you schedule the intake appointment.
Is the consultation really free?
Yes, the 15-minute consultation is completely free and carries no financial obligation. If you choose to move forward with a full assessment, a $500 fee is due to schedule the longer intake appointment, where Dr. Capretto conducts a comprehensive developmental history; the intake scheduling fee is credited in full toward the total cost of the evaluation.
What is the practice-opening rate?
A reduced fee of $2,500 — instead of the standard $3,000 — for the first 20 families to schedule an evaluation as the practice opens. It is applied automatically when you schedule; nothing about the evaluation differs. As of this time, the rate is still available.
Who needs an extended evaluation?
Most children don’t. The standard evaluation is designed to answer the large majority of referral questions in a single testing day. An extended evaluation is reserved for situations that are identifiably complex before booking: testing that will require a second day, extensive prior records to review, complicated differential diagnoses, and educational evaluations. Families seeking a second opinion usually begin with the Second-Opinion Review below. If your child needs an extended evaluation, you will know at your intake and history appointment — never by surprise.
We already have an evaluation. Can Dr. Capretto offer a second opinion?
Yes — and usually without repeating testing. The Second-Opinion Review is a careful reading of your child’s prior evaluation and records, followed by a 60-minute conference and a written opinion letter, for a flat $850. If the records show that new testing is genuinely warranted, the $850 credits in full toward a comprehensive evaluation — so a second look never costs you twice.
Do you accept insurance?
We are a private-pay practice and do not bill insurance directly. You receive a superbill to submit for out-of-network reimbursement, and HSA/FSA cards are accepted.
Will we know the full cost in advance?
Yes. Fees are published on this page, and as required by the federal No Surprises Act, every family receives a written Good Faith Estimate of expected charges before services begin.
What is the ADOS-2, and why does certification matter?
The ADOS-2 is the gold-standard observational instrument for diagnosing autism. Dr. Capretto is certified at the research-reliability level — the standard required to administer it in scientific studies — which very few community evaluators hold.
My daughter was screened before and “passed.” Is another look worth it?
Often, yes. Girls and young women frequently show subtler presentations — camouflaged social differences, quiet internalized struggles — that brief screenings are not built to catch. A comprehensive evaluation looks well beyond a screening checklist, and these referrals are a particular focus of the practice.
What should we tell our child before the visit?
Keep it simple and honest: they’re going to spend time with someone whose job is understanding how kids think and learn, and a lot of it will feel like playing and solving puzzles. There are no shots, nothing scary, and no passing or failing. We’re happy to suggest wording for your child’s age at the consultation.
How quickly will we get results?
You’ll sit down with Dr. Capretto for an in-depth feedback session within two weeks after testing — and in most cases, the full written report is placed in your hands right there.
What is provided in my child’s report?
A comprehensive written report: the diagnostic findings, the scores behind them, and specific, practical recommendations for home, school, and medical care. Dr. Capretto co-wrote the State of Oklahoma’s guidance on identifying autism, and she selects assessments and writes reports with schools’ and payers’ criteria in mind — to help children qualify for the supports and services they need.
What ages do you evaluate?
Ages 2 through 21 — from toddlers showing first signs to teens and young adults seeking answers.

Nothing is filed with an insurer, so no diagnosis enters your child’s insurance record. You decide who learns the results — the school, the pediatrician, no one at all — and when.

Insurance reimbursement can quietly pressure an evaluation toward a billable label. Here there is none: if your child doesn’t meet criteria, that is the finding. An honest “no” can be as valuable as a clear “yes.”
